Do you have questions about the installation of the lawn mower robot or the services?

We answer the most frequently asked questions

#General – What principle do the robotic lawn mowers operate on?

All Einhell robotic lawn mowers work on a random principle. When the mower encounters an obstacle or a boundary, it turns in a different direction and continues its work from there.
In this way, all areas of your garden are mowed. However, a cutting pattern is not recognizable.
Additionally, the mower switches to a spiral mode several times during the working window to increase the efficiency of the random principle.

The robot mows during the daily working interval you choose. Eight hours per day is recommended. An appropriate mowing time, suitable for the size of the garden, ensures a reliable and uniform mowing result. An exact indication of how many square meters can be mowed per battery charge depends on the type and condition of the garden and cannot be generalized.

#General – How does the robotic lawn mower respond to external influences such as rain, heat, or thunderstorms?

In the case of rain and with the rain sensor activated, the robotic lawn mower returns to the charging station to avoid damaging the lawn. Generally, rain does not harm the robot.

During thunderstorms, the charging station should be disconnected from the power supply to prevent the risk of lightning strikes.

In extreme heat, the robotic lawn mower goes to the charging station and pauses until it has cooled down. After that, the mower automatically resumes its work.

In summer, schedule the working hours for cooler parts of the day and place the charging station in a shaded area. If the battery temperature exceeds 75 °C, the robotic lawn mower will return to the charging station. If the temperature is above 45 °C or below 0 °C, the charging process will stop, and the robotic lawn mower will wait at the charging station. Shift the working hours in summer to the early morning hours and avoid operating the robotic lawn mower during the hottest parts of the day. Once the battery or control unit has cooled down to the permissible temperature range, the robotic lawn mower will automatically return to its programmed operation.

#General – How loud is the mower?

The robot has a noise level of about 60 dB (depending on the specific model). This is roughly equivalent to room and conversation volume. If the lawn mower is louder than usual, foreign objects may be stuck to the blades or they may even be damaged. Clean or replace the blades to return to the normal volume.

#General – How often does the mower need to mow?

Since the mower operates randomly, it needs to mow the lawn regularly to ensure a clean cut. Additionally, the grass clippings remain as mulch, so it is advisable not to let the grass grow too long. However, since every garden is unique, no exact mowing time can be specified. As a recommendation, a daily operation of 8 hours for 500 m² is sensible.

#General – How should the robotic lawn mower be cleaned and maintained?

Do not use a garden hose to clean the mower deck underneath the mower. Turn off the main switch of the robotic mower. After that, the mower can be cleaned with a damp cloth. Do not use cleaning agents or solvents, and do not rinse the robot under running water. Replace the blades at least every 3 months to avoid reducing the operational efficiency of the robotic mower. If the blades are damaged, they should be replaced promptly. Always replace all 3 blades at the same time to avoid imbalances.

Once the grass growth noticeably decreases in autumn, you should winterize your robotic mower. You can find all the important information in our blog post: Den Winterizing the Robotic Mower

In this video, we have described the proper cleaning and winterization of the robotic mower.

#General – When does the robotic lawn mower return to the charging station?

The robotic mower returns to the charging station in the following cases:

  • The battery charge level drops below 30%.
  • The daily working time is over.
  • The rain sensor is activated and has triggered.
  • The robotic mower is overheating.
  • You manually send the robotic mower back to the charging station.
  • The 'edge mowing' or 'spot mowing' mode has been started outside the set working window and has been completed by the robotic mower.
  • Additionally, for the FREELEXO CAM models: The time of sunset determined by GNSS positioning has been reached.
#Service – My lawn is being mowed unevenly, the grass blades are tearing, and the lawn is discoloring. What could be the reason for this?

First, check the blades. If they are very dull, the lawn cannot be mowed properly. This leads to a whitish discoloration of the grass because the blades are being torn and frayed.

#Service – I have forgotten my PIN. What can I do?

If you have forgotten or misplaced the PIN for your robotic lawn mower, you can request a new PIN at any time. However, you will need the receipt and the serial number of the FREELEXO. To obtain your PIN, please contact our customer service and provide the PUK to receive a new PIN. You can also have your robotic lawn mower generate the PUK in advance. Please refer to the user manual for this.

#Installation – What preparations need to be made before installation?
  • First, create a sketch. Mark all obstacles and develop a plan on how you want to protect them.
  • Trim your lawn to a maximum length of 60 mm.
  • Remove all loose items from the lawn that could damage the mower or be damaged by the mower.
  • Leaves and foliage do not necessarily need to be removed, as they will be shredded by the mower.
#Installation – Where can the charging station be placed?
  • An outdoor socket is required that provides a constant power supply. The power cable of the charging station has a length of 10 meters. Make sure not to lay the power cable in the mowing area.
  • The charging station must be installed on a level surface.
  • It should be possible to lay the boundary wire straight at least 2 meters in front of and 1 meter behind the charging station.
  • Place the charging station in a shaded area.
#Installation – How can the boundary wire be laid, and what should be considered?

The wire or guide cable can be laid either on the surface or up to 5 cm deep in the ground. To allow for adjustments in the first few days, it is recommended to lay it on the surface. After a few weeks, the wire will be overgrown and hardly visible. At that point, scarifying will also not be a problem. When laying above ground, ensure that the wire lies flat on uneven sections of the ground. In such cases, use more stakes to prevent damage to the wire by the robotic mower.

Minimum distance:
Maintain a minimum distance of 30 cm from obstacles, walls, raised walkways, gravel, bark mulch, lower flower beds, or similar.

Corners:
Do not lay the wire in 90° corners. Divide the corners into two 45° angles each.

Slopes:
Permissible slope at the upper part of a hill: 35% with a minimum distance of 30 cm.
Permissible slope at the lower part of a hill: 17% with a minimum distance of 40 cm. WARNING: Risk of slipping on wet grass.

Level edges:
For walkways or patios where the transition to the lawn is not elevated, the boundary wire can be laid directly at the edge.

Maximum length:
For all models, a maximum wire length of 250 meters is permitted. If the permissible total length of the boundary wire is exceeded, proper functionality can no longer be guaranteed.

#Installation – What is the maximum width of a narrow passage?

Passages or corridors need a minimum width of 140 cm (or 80 cm between the boundary wires) and can be a maximum of 8 m long. If these requirements are not met, it cannot be guaranteed that this area will be mowed reliably.
